"I agree, we should take lessons from the failure and avoid the unwanted situations. May be a tool fails somewhere but can be a success at some other area with different circumstances."

Usually we enter into our areas of intervention with some specific tools and approaches to set a group of target audiance and to test our approcahes time to time beside our regular activities. In doing so sometimes we succeed and the reverse experiences also occures. Its our regular practice that we record all the success stories but mostly we ignore the bad stories or intentionaly dont wann share either to avoid the rpoject audits or consider that this time its a lesson learn for us ,next time…See More

i have been learning and contributing at different platforms time to time since 1998 to date , started as Volunteer and now I am WASH sector head . From every platform i strived to reach the people waiting for help.

I being a minor humanitarian worker tried to pull the rope in different ways from various humanitarian platforms i.e. some times as Community mobilizer to reach vulnerable , helpless people to listen their voice and help them accordingly ,as Hygiene promoter visiting each and every household demonstrating the Men , women & children to safe hygiene practices and proper use of WASH facilities , As volunteer running campaigns for World water day,World hand washing days ,HIV AIDs , Breast cancer etc ,As food security Manager Organizing Markets for voucher beneficiaries (male & female) and guiding them how to utilize voucher to get the agricultural in puts,As Master trainer helping learners to understand ,Using Vouchers to purchase agricultural tools and food items , conducting training on PHAST, CHAST,CLTS ,SSHE ,Integrated crops management , Medical Waste Management , Formation of organic fertilizers and pesticides, CBDRM ,DPM , Latrine component & Hand pump installations and maintenance and many more , As implementer busy in provision/installation of Water supply and sanitation facilities in IDP or Afghan refugee camps , house holds & schools , some times constructing retaining walls , check dams, link roads & rehabilitating irrigation channels during different scenarios e.g. developmental and emergency , relief and recovery , programs but through out this period i realized that One can't measure its expertise or contribution at certain level as the fact remains constant that "the more we seek/probe , more we learn".

North Tarawa in Kiribati is the first island in the Pacific to be declared open defecation free, thanks to the “Kiriwatsan I Project”. The Ministry of Public Works is implementing this project with technical support from UNICEF and funding from the European Union. In March 2013, North Tarawa adopted the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach following a training of trainers course conducted by Dr Kamal Kar.

Megan Richie is SNV's new WASH Director

In March 2013, SNV appointed Megan Richie as Managing Director for Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH). She leads SNV's global initiatives in the WASH sector. Prior to her appointment as Managing Director, Ms Richie served as Country Director for SNV in Lao PDR.

Brian Arbogast new WASH Director at Gates Foundation

Brian Arbogast is the new director of the Water, Sanitation & Hygiene program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He started work at the foundation on 13 May 2013. He takes over from Dr. Frank Rijsberman who acted as director until May 2012.

A central role for government in monitoring sustainable WASH services

Governments are not only investing more in national monitoring systems, but their leadership in country monitoring is also now generally accepted. With this acceptance, however, come expectations about good governance and transparency. Monitoring is politics: agendas and power influence what is monitored and how the results are used. National systems, too, go beyond WASH sector monitoring and should include data from donors and NGOs as well.
